AI and battery replacement without lifting a finger: Automated unmanned aviation is taking the next step today.
DJI today released the latest version of its automated mini-hangar: Dock 4. While its predecessor, the Dock 3 — which has already proven itself in practice many times over with the Matrice 4 on board — remains the tool of choice, especially for all surveying tasks, its successor offers several interesting innovations adapted to today’s state-of-the-art technology.
The latest model, with its features, is a wise investment—especially for customers in the inspection sector and the public safety sector who need to carry out missions using the DJI Dock’s automated technology more than just occasionally. Inside the Dock 4 is a sophisticated battery carousel with space for three additional batteries (in addition to the one installed in the drone), which automatically swaps out the batteries in the drone as needed. It takes just 47 seconds from landing to taking off again with a replaced battery.
The drone itself — the new Matrice 5TD — also comes with several technical upgrades that are certainly useful in everyday practical applications. A multisensor gimbal offers various camera and sensor systems for different applications: thermal (4x the resolution of the Matrice 4TD), wide-angle camera, and zoom camera (both with rolling shutter), a laser rangefinder, and an NIR auxiliary light for night vision. In addition, the user can attach up to three additional payloads simultaneously: a parachute system, speakers, and a spotlight, which even automatically track the lens.
The new integrated microwave radar for optimized obstacle avoidance is another benefit that really pays off, especially when detecting high-voltage power lines, for example. In addition to other technical innovations, the increased onboard computing power for AI algorithms — including several pre-integrated algorithms, such as those for fire and smoke detection — is particularly impressive. This is a real upgrade, especially in the public safety sector. It should be noted, however, that the new DJI Dock 4 does not have an integrated RTK module, so the O4 base station is absolutely necessary.
The DJI Dock 3 with the Matrice 4D/4TD will remain available for the time being; our geo-konzept experts recommend it for surveying tasks due to the Matrice 4D’s global shutter camera.
DJI Dock 4 is now available for order from geo-konzept.
