Remote Sensing for Field Trial Scoring

Our solutions are used in field trial management for automatic scoring of several different parameters of varying crops. By UAV these parameters can be documented easier, quicker and more objective than hitherto. The analysis of the different parcels can be done by high-resolution RGB-camera, multispectral camera or thermal camera. geo-konzept offers ready-to-use solutions for scoring of plant height, biomass and beginning of flowering. Multiple other features of the plants can be gathered semi-automatically. The most useful vegetation indices for your trial problem can be used and implemented. geo-konzept’s UAV solutions and software for trial planning and evaluation will be more and more linked together and permanently refined.

Scoring of plant height

Easy and automatic determination of crop height!

The crop height can be exactly determined from the air. Via photogrammetry, high-precise 3D models of plant populations can be created. As a result between 5,000 and 25,000 height values per parcel are displayed. Furthermore estimations on the parcel homogeneity can be gathered. By multiple flights, temporal developments can be displayed. The growth behaviour of breeds are shown spatially and temporarily with a high precision. Through the comparison of plant height after lodging with a flight executed before, it is possible to measure the amount of lodging objectively for the first time. The lodging area per parcel can be assessed as well as the severity of lodging.

Biomass scoring

Easy and automatic determination of biomass!

The growth effort of crops is reflected by the spectral reflection attitude. The more biomass is present, the more light is reflected in the near-infrared. These differences are already faintly visible in the visual range, but they can be scored much more precisely with special sensors. By the acquisition of biomass parameters, conclusions on the yield can be achieved. Different vegetation indices enable further conclusions of plant substance.
Furthermore multispectral data and vegetation indices help in mapping damage and disease attack. Hence the bird’s eye view enables an objective view of the attack’s behaviour.

Plant counting

Scoring by UAV

The counting of objects is one of the most personnel and time consuming scoring parameters in trial management. Via an UAV flight, RGB orthophotos with a high resolution can be created. Hence it is possible to count objects like e.g. single plants or spikes or flowers. With the Counting-AddOn for MiniGIS, this scoring can be executed easily, autonomously and automatically for each parcel. Herby it is furthermore possible to gauge the automatic counting manually and determine further parameters like the soil coverage parcel specifically.

 Your advantages

Fast data acquisition
— Manual or semi-automatic approach
— Flexible counting settings and targeted objects
— Easy handling
— Flexible data output (total amount or coverage rate)
— Process is documented
— Objective and repeatable measurements

Scoring of flowering in rape seed

Easy scoring of flowering in rape seed

This MiniGIS module facilitates the scoring of flowering in rape seed. At the moment it is necessary to determine the flowering state manually in a regular interval during one month. This scoring hence is linked with huge personnel expenditure and leads to a subjective result. By only some UAV flights, this task can be accomplished more objective and quicker. Premise is the use of a Tetracam MCAW multispectral camera. The UAV data provides you with absolute values of the beginning of flowering.

Your advantages

Fast data acquisition
— Reduction of scoring effort
— Output of absolute values
